I don’t have to quote 50 Scriptures to prove that the world we live in can be straight up crazy!. However, though we are surrounded by temptation and negative influences, it is possible to live right in a ratchet world. Yes I said it and I meant it! Though it seems like it is too much trouble to live right as a young person, it is possible. Remember Daniel, he purposed in is heart to live right in a sinful and sensual country called Babaloyn (Daniel 1:1-8). So, if Daniel could do it, you can too. That being said, here are some habits to help young people to live right no matter who is around or what is going on.
1. Change the company you keep.
Oftentimes, it is difficult to do right when you surround yourself by people that influence you not to do the right thing. 1 Corinthians 15:33 do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.
2. Remember, pleasure last a moment, pain can last a lifetime.
James 4:17 defines sin as knowing to do right but not doing it. And Hebrews 11:25 says sin is pleasurable for a season. With this in mind, we must remember even though sin is pleasurable it can jack us up big-time, because the wages of sin is death according to Romans 6:23.
3. Stay alert, you always have a choice.
Always remember know one can make you do anything. Sometimes we just need to make the right choice even though it may not be popular with our peers or comfortable to ourselves. Deut 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
4. Ask for help.
When life gets overwhelming and sound decisions are tough to make, reach out for some assistance. Whether praying to God or seeking counsel from a mature person the Lord has put into your life. Ps 50:15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
5. Change your music and movie selections.
What you constantly listen to and watch can affect your thoughts. Feed yourself what is popular with this world and that’s what you will think about, talk about, and act on. Proverbs 23:7 …For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
5. Obey good advice.
Oftentimes it is difficult to do right when we ignore the help that parents, peers, preachers, and considered love ones give. Sometimes humbling yourself and obeying instructions makes life easier to live. Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.
6. Realize that the God is dealing with you for a reason.
It is easy to get caught up in the world and find yourself out of the will of God. When we stop living in righteousness that’s when God convicts us of our sins and it’s time to repent. When your heart is pricked because of sin it’s time to change for the better. Repentance means to turn. With God’s help you can turn from doing wrong to doing what’s right. Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
7. Receive the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit (The Helper, John 14:16) gives a Christian the power to do right in live. Receiving Him and following Him on a daily basis is what is needed to live in a righteous manner. Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
8. Never give up on yourself.
No matter how many mistakes you make, God’s compassion and mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23). Keep striving to do right and you will get to a point where you will not make the same mistakes. And in time, you will be able to help someone else that is struggling. Proverbs 24:16 For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again,
And if you have not giving your life unto the Jesus Christ, do so today and He will help you can live right in a ratchet world. For He came that you might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
