So reports are that kids are playing a game that summons a Mexican demon named Charlie Charlie. While people are going hysterical, my mind set is like Ecclesiastes 1:9, there is nothing is new under the sun. Think back. When I was in school there was the game Blood Mary. Then there was a movie produced with the same tone and popularity of Blood Mary called, Candyman. The spooky, one hand man with a bloody hook, deep voice, trench coat, and yellow jackets swarming around him. And now that I think about it, Candyman only haunted folks that lived in the projects right?
Now there is Charlie Charlie. Not to say demons aren’t real and they can’t be summoned. If fact, the Bible teaches that demons roam the earth (1 Peter 5:8), can be communicated with (Matthew 8:28-35), and they can posses adults as well as young people that are not Spirit-filled (Acts 16:16). But thank God for Jesus! Because the real Christian has the authority to cast demons out in the name of Jesus. The Bible teaches that demons even tremble at the Name of Jesus (James 2:19). That’s power.
In my opinion, young people shouldn’t play such games because demons have one purpose according to John 10:10, to steal kill, and to destroy. If your child is not born again, I believe making Jesus Lord and Savior is the first step. Reason being because their is no other Name under heaven which man can be saved (Acts 4:12). Remember, one aspect of salvation is protection. There is no reason the be afraid to go to sleep or stay home by yourself when you know that the Lord protects His children. And finally, parents and youth leaders should question and equip their young people to avoid such dangerous games as The Apostle Paul warned in 1 Corinthians 10:20 …and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.
Scriptures to equip children and teens with when dealing with such matters:
- Isaiah 54:14 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
- Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
- Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
- 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
